Man City sign Argentina goalkeeper Rulli from Marseille

Marseille, France: Manchester City have signed Argentina international goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli from Marseille on a two-year deal, both clubs announced on Wednesday.

"This is an amazing opportunity for me and one I had to grasp," said Rulli, who returns for a second spell at City having spent the 2016/17 season at the Etihad without making a first team appearance.

"When the chance to join Manchester City comes along you have to go for it.

"Everyone knows what an impressive club this is.

"City's success over a long time has been impressive. Everyone I have spoken to about City said I had to join them because they are a club with incredibly high standards.

"My job now is to train hard, get to know the players and staff and do everything I can to reach my best level."

Rulli has won eight caps for Argentina and was in the squad that won the 2022 World Cup and 2024 Copa America and reached last month's World Cup final in which they lost to Spain.

He previously played for European clubs including Real Sociedad, Villarreal, Montpellier and Ajax.

He famously scored a penalty in Villarreal's 2021 Europa League final victory over Manchester United, before denying opposite number David de Gea to claim the trophy 11-10 in the shootout.

Having been fined 10 million euros for failing to meet UEFA break-even targets, Marseille have to sell players this summer to balance its books.

Marseille's fifth-place finish in Ligue 1 during the 2025-2026 season also means the club will not participate in the lucrative Champions League.

On Tuesday, Marseille announced the departure of another Argentine player, defender Facundo Medina, to Bayer Leverkusen after just one season with the club.

Marseille had previously parted ways with some of its highest earners, such as English forward Mason Greenwood, who left for Fenerbahce, and Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who headed to Spanish side Deportivo La Coruña.

Fenerbahçe have reportedly agreed to sell Egyptian centre-back Omar Fayed to Serie A side Frosinone for €500,000 plus bonuses.

The 23-year-old will travel to Italy on Thursday, August 13. He will undergo a medical before signing a four-year contract with Frosinone.

Turkish journalist Sercan Hamzaoğlu first reported in July that Frosinone submitted an official bid for Fayed, and that the club opened talks with Fenerbahçe.

The clubs have now agreed a permanent transfer where Fenerbahçe will receive €500,000 plus performance-based add-ons linked to appearances.

Fayed joined Fenerbahçe from Arab Contractors in August 2023. He signed a contract until June 2027 and has not played a competitive match for the first team.

Instead, he has spent three straight seasons on loan. He first joined Serbian side Novi Pazar in 2023/24. He made 21 appearances in all competitions there.

Fayed then moved to Beerschot. He played 15 matches for the Belgian club in the 2024/25 season.

He then spent last season at Portuguese side Arouca. He made 10 appearances after joining on loan with an option to buy, but an injury kept him out from January until the end of the season.

Frosinone moved for Fayed after interest from several clubs. KingFut reported last month that Polish side Pogoń Szczecin also held talks with Fenerbahçe, as clubs in Egypt and Europe also tracked him.

Fayed played five matches for Egypt at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Egypt reached the semi-finals and finished fourth and he earned a place in the tournament’s best XI.

If the transfer goes through, Fayed will join a Frosinone side back in Serie A. The club finished second in Italy’s second division last season.

Bratislava: The Qatar national skydiving team, affiliated with the Qatar Air Sports Committee under the Joint Special Forces, is currently preparing for the CISM 48th World Military Parachuting Championships (WMPC).

Taking place in Slovakia starting Friday until Aug. 23, the WMPC will see the participation of teams from 33 countries.

Crowned as champion of the Accuracy Landing competition at CISM Qatar 2025, Team Qatar is eager to defend its title at the upcoming event.

Being one of the world's leading teams of its kind, the Qatar parachute team (Al Hadaf) has achieved numerous victories and milestones over the past several years, this includes making it to the Guinness World Records for the world's largest parachuting canopy formation at night.

Representing Al Hadaf in the senior individuals category is Mohammed Al Marri, whereas Ali Al Yafei and Saleh Al Karbi will compete in the junior individuals category.

Meanwhile Abdulaziz Abdullah, Khalid Shaja, Saleh Al Abidi, and Mohammed Al Attas will represent Al Hadaf in team events.

Captain of Qatar's skydiving team, Abdulaziz Abdullah Al Hajaji, underscored that Qatar will participate in the WMPC as the defending champion and said that competing will be tough, given that some of the world's best skydivers will be present. However, he emphasized Qatar's readiness to deliver a strong performance throughout the event, especially after the team's latest training camp, which improved the team's technical and physical readiness and boosted teamwork.

In a related development, Qatari international judge Mohammed Al Hajri will be part of the officiating team, reflecting the growing presence of Qatari expertise across the various fields associated with air sports.
