2026 NFL Odds: Books Expect Jaguars Expected To Regress
It's unclear as to why, but Jacksonville is expected to underwhelm in 2026. The Jaguars were borderline dominant last regular season, winning their last eight games to total 13 victories on the season. Todd Monken clarifies comments about QB plans for the preseason
Browns head coach Todd Monken opened a Wednesday press conference by responding to a question about the team's plans for their starting quarterback in their first two preseason games.
Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reported on Tuesday that Monken told him either Deshaun Watson or Shedeur Sanders would start the preseason opener against the Bears on August 15 and that the other one would start against the Bills on August 22. On Wednesday, Monken said that was not an entirely accurate representation of the team's plans at this point.
"Basically talked about that the quarterbacks are gonna play in the preseason," Monken said. "Obviously if it’s still a competition at that time, why wouldn’t you start one and start the other and then we would go from there. That was really what the conversation was. He wasn’t wrong in what we talked about, which you’ve all known that they’re gonna play in the preseason. Someone has to go out there for the first snap thus they would be the one that starts. At this point we’re so far from that, that it’s not really as important as what it got made out to be."
Monken said that Watson and Sanders will continue rotating with the first team as long as the competition continues and gave no indication that there's a specific date he has in mind to make a decision on a starter. It seems likely that both Watson and Sanders will wind up starting a preseason game if that continues for a few more weeks, but it's not the sure thing it may have seemed on Tuesday.

Milwaukee achieved the milestone in a 3-1 victory over Pittsburgh. Rookie center fielder Jackson Chourio delivered the game-winning RBI single and hit a home run, while first baseman Andrew Vaughn also went deep. Logan Henderson pitched six innings, allowing just two runs.
Elsewhere, the Los Angeles Dodgers suffered a 3-2 loss to the Chicago Cubs, extending their losing streak to five games.
Jadeveon Clowney: Logan Hall gave me the No. 90 jersey without me asking for it
Sometimes, when a high-profile player arrives on a team and wants a jersey number that's already taken, it leads to a contentious issue in the locker room, or a high-priced negotiation. That was not the case with the Texans No. 90 jersey.
Logan Hall, who had been No. 90 in Houston for only a few months, gave it to Jadeveon Clowney, who previously wore No. 90 on the Texans from 2014 to 2018, without Clowney even asking for it.
"I walked in, he was like, 'You can get 90 back,'" Clowney said. "I was like, 'I don't even know if I want it' at first because last time I got injured I wore 90. Ever since I left I've been wearing all these different numbers."
Clowney wore No. 90 from 2014, when the Texans made him the first overall pick in the NFL draft, through 2019, when he was traded to Seattle and played one season for the Seahawks. Clowney also wore No. 90 for two seasons with the Browns, but he has worn other numbers in other places: No. 99 for the Titans, No. 24 for the Ravens, No. 7 for the Panthers and No. 42 for the Cowboys.
Hall, who signed with the Texans this offseason after playing his first four NFL seasons for the Buccaneers, had been wearing No. 90 in Houston just as he did in Tampa Bay. But Hall happily switched to No. 96 to give the No. 90 jersey to Clowney.
Clowney said it's been fun to see how welcoming the Texans' locker room is to him.
"It's been great," Clowney said. "I'm excited for the opportunity."
Giants put Roy Robertson-Harris on IR, sign two players
Giants defensive lineman Roy Robertson-Harris tore his Achilles during the team's offseason program, but they put him on the physically unable to perform list rather than injured reserve to open training camp.
That move kept some hope alive for a return late in the season, but that's no longer the case. The Giants placed Robertson-Harris on injured reserve Wednesday and the timing precludes him being activated this year.
The Giants also waived wide receiver Beaux Collins with an injury designation on Wednesday. Collins will revert to injured reserve if he's unclaimed.
Defensive backs David Long and D.J. James were signed to fill the two open roster spots. Long has played in 86 games for the Rams, Raiders, Panthers, Packers and Colts. James was a Seahawks sixth-round pick in 2024 and he played in one game for the Patriots last season.
