Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry referees revealed

The match officials for the Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry Tests have been locked in ahead of the blockbuster tour kicking off this week.

Englishman Matt Carley will take charge of the opening Test between the Springboks and All Blacks at Ellis Park on 22 August.

Georgian Nika Amashukeli is set to blow the whistle for the Cape Town clash a week later, while Australian Angus Gardner will officiate the third Test at FNB Stadium.

England’s Karl Dickson will handle the fourth Test in Baltimore.

The same officials will also oversee the All Blacks’ tour matches against the South African clubs, with Dickson appointed to Friday’s opener against the Stormers in Cape Town.

Frenchman Pierre Brousset is on duty for Saturday’s Boks-Argentina Test in Buenos Aires, while Italy’s Andrea Piardi will call the shots in the Wallabies’ meeting with Rassie Erasmus’ men on 27 September.

A well-known figure in refereeing circles told Rapport that the Bok camp is comfortable with the appointments.
