'It was an abject surrender by the Indian team...': Kumble on visitors' loss

In the third T20I match against Team India, England secured a dominant victory by 125 runs at the Trent Bridge Cricket Ground in Nottingham.

Batting first, the hosts posted a total of 201 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs. Later in the second essay of the game, Team India was bowled out for just 76 runs in 11.4 overs.

England's Josh Tongue returned with the figures of four wickets for 28 runs in four overs. Jofra Archer also claimed three wickets by conceding 29 runs in three overs.

Speaking about the visitors' batting collapse, former Team India cricketer Anil Kumble said that Archer and Tongue bowled short and quick, and made the chase difficult for the opponents.

"It was an abject surrender by the Indian team. You don't expect a world champion side to cave in like that. England's bowlers were right on the money. Jofra Archer and Josh Tongue stuck to a clear plan. They bowled short, they bowled quick, and they kept the pressure on. Both were clocking over 145 kmph, making life difficult for the Indian batters, who couldn't free their arms or find any rhythm," he said on JioHotstar.

The former cricketer also feels that the Indian batsmen should have taken responsibility instead of attacking. He also feels that it was a disappointing collapse by the Indian side.

"The Indian batters needed to show more patience and application, but everyone just tried to attack instead of absorbing the pressure. Yes, the required rate was over 10, but someone had to take responsibility and bat deep. Instead, they went the aggressive route and paid the price with a batting collapse. It was a disappointing surrender by the Indian batting line up," added Kumble.

Team India's opening batsman Abhishek Sharma was dismissed on 10 runs in seven balls, including a maximum. Fellow opening batsman Vaibhav Sooryavanshi departed on 13 runs in five balls, which included two maximums.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan scored 13 runs in nine balls, including a boundary and a maximum. Skipper Shreyas Iyer registered five runs in four balls. He also smashed a boundary before returning to the pavilion. Facing 10 balls, Axar Patel scored three runs. Tilak Varma managed to score three runs in 11 balls. Shivam Dube also returned to the pavilion on two runs in four balls.

Arshdeep Singh scored four runs in four balls. Harshit Rana and Varun Chakaravarthy registered nine and five runs, respectively. Facing 13 balls, Rana smashed a boundary, whereas Chakaravarthy faced seven balls and smashed a boundary.

Prince Yadav stayed unbeaten on two runs in two balls.

Jofra Archer also managed to score five runs in two balls, including a boundary. Facing 24 balls, Sam Curran delivered an unbeaten knock of 41 runs, with the help of four boundaries.
