Canes Blank Flyers in Game 1 Semifinal Win

The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 3-0 in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series on Saturday, with Logan Stankoven scoring twice and Frederik Andersen recording his second playoff shutout.

Logan Stankoven scored twice and became the youngest player in NHL history to score in five consecutive playoff games to start his career, while Frederik Andersen made 19 saves for his second shutout of the postseason. Jackson Blake added a goal and an assist as the Hurricanes followed their first-round sweep of Ottawa with another dominant performance.

The Flyers managed only 20 shots on goal from Dan Vladar, who couldn't stop Stankoven's early goal just 91 seconds into the game. Carolina will look to take a 2-0 series lead when the teams meet again Monday in Raleigh. afrikasportnews.co.za
