The Giants bolstered their roster depth by acquiring right-hander Dylan Smith from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for cash considerations. This move comes ahead of the team's series against the San Diego Padres, following a difficult opening series sweep against the Yankees.
Smith, who turns 26 in May, joins the organization after spending last season in the Tigers' bullpen. Despite struggling with strikeouts in his brief MLB debut, he posted a solid 1.38 ERA in seven appearances. To create space on the 40-man roster, the Giants also traded outfielder Luis Matos to Milwaukee and designated infielder Tyler Fitzgerald for assignment.
