Jason Heyward Announces Retirement After 16-Year MLB Career

Jason Heyward, a 16-year MLB veteran and 2016 World Series champion, announced his retirement on Friday. He plans to stay involved as a mentor and fan.

Heyward, 36, said he was glad to step to the other side of the game and look forward to mentoring young players. He joined MLB with the Atlanta Braves in 2010 and played for the Cubs, Cardinals, Dodgers, Astros and Padres.

The five‑time Gold Glove winner finished with a .255 average, 186 home runs and 730 RBIs, and was part of the Cubs’ 2016 championship run.
