Lions Eye Justin Joly as TE Insurance in Draft

Detroit Lions are considering selecting NC State tight end Justin Joly in the second round to provide insurance for Sam LaPorta’s herniated disc recovery. Joly, 22, has shown perfect reliability in college, missing only one game in 2025 due to a suspected quad strain and playing all games in 2023‑24.

The Lions view Joly as a clean prospect with 166 receptions for 1,978 yards at NC State and a projected draft slot at #53. His left‑leg injury is believed to be a minor muscle strain, but will be investigated to rule out joint issues.
