Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred expressed concern that the owners' salary cap proposal could lead to a work stoppage similar to the 1994-95 strike that canceled the World Series. The owners believe the current luxury tax system, in place since 2003, is no longer effective as competitive balance measures.
"Of course I do" when asked if he's concerned about repeating the 1994 events, Manfred said. Players have vowed to fight the cap "as long as it takes." The current collective bargaining agreement expires December 1, with management potentially imposing a lockout if no agreement is reached. catcross.biz
