McCarthy Joins Giants, Role Unclear

J.J. McCarthy practiced with the New York Giants for the first time since joining the team in a trade from Minnesota. Coach John Harbaugh has confirmed that Jameis Winston will start at quarterback against Arizona on Sunday, but the Giants have not specified whether McCarthy or practice squad QB Jake Haener will serve as backup. syntagm.co.za

The Giants gave up a fifth-round pick for McCarthy after losing Jaxson Dart and linebacker Brian Burns to season-ending injuries. Harbaugh praised McCarthy as 'very talented' who 'will make us a stronger football team.' Winston started against Tennessee last week, completing 14 of 22 passes for 118 yards in a 12-7 victory.
