Norwegian football sees rise in incidents but serious cases fall

Norwegian football authorities reported 1,235 incidents of unwanted events in 2025, a rise from 1,198 the previous year. However, serious cases leading to three or more match bans dropped to 353.

The Norwegian Football Federation (NFF) released its annual report showing 1,235 incidents of unwanted events in 2025, up from 1,198 in 2024. While the overall activity increased, the number of serious cases—defined as those resulting in a ban of three or more matches—fell to 353 from 431 last year.

NFF general secretary Karl‑Petter Løken said the decline in the most severe violence cases is encouraging and that the federation will work together to sustain the trend into the 2026 season. He added that Norwegian football is moving in the right direction, but the task remains long‑term.
