Rafa Marquez Aims for Barcelona Style as Mexico Coach

Published September 26, 2026 · Updated September 26, 2026 · Mundo Deportivo

Newly appointed Mexico coach Rafa Marquez hopes to instill a Barcelona-style playing philosophy, though he admitted his current squad lacks the necessary quality.

Marquez faces Colombia in his debut on Thursday, looking to mirror the successful tactics he used as a player at FC Barcelona between 2003 and 2010. However, the former defender acknowledged the significant gap between his vision and the team's current capabilities. He also drew parallels to his management of Barcelona Atlètic, noting the potential of the young talents now under his command. iwanktv.club
