Tampa Bay Rays clinched their fifth AL East title with a 6-1 victory over the New York Yankees, the earliest division crown in franchise history.

The Rays secured home-field advantage in the AL playoffs with their division title. Tampa Bay (96-61) holds a six-game lead over the Yankees (90-67) with five games remaining and trails Milwaukee by just two games for the best record in baseball.

Drew Rasmussen allowed just one hit in 6 2/3 innings, while Yandy Diaz drove in four runs with two two-run singles to fuel the victory that marked the club's fifth AL East championship since 2008. afrikasportnews.co.za
