Trafford Becomes Sixth City Goalkeeper to Earn England Cap

James Trafford made his senior England debut, becoming the sixth City goalkeeper to win a Three Lions cap and the first to do so since 2017.

Trafford, 23, earned his first senior England cap on Friday evening, making him the sixth City goalkeeper to represent the Three Lions while at the club. He is also the second youngest City shot‑stopper to play for England.

Previous City keepers to win England caps include Jim Mitchell (1924), Frank Swift (1946‑49), Joe Corrigan (1976‑82), David James (2002‑04) and Joe Hart (2010‑12). Trafford joins a distinguished list that spans nearly a century.
