Turner Starts for USMNT in 5-2 Loss to Belgium

Matt Turner returned to the USMNT starting lineup for the first time in 12 matches, but the Stars and Stripes lost 5-2 to Belgium in a friendly at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Turner, who had not started since June 10, 2025, was handed the starting spot by coach Mauricio Pochettino, who said he wanted to give the keeper a chance after Matt Freese had been the mainstay. The 29‑cap veteran made a few routine saves before Belgium’s Jérémy Doku and Zeno Debast broke through, with the US conceding five goals.

Despite a solid early performance, Turner was unable to stop a long‑range shot from Debast and a late strike from Amadou Onana that sealed the 5-2 defeat. Pochettino praised Turner’s effort but noted the need for further evaluation of the goalkeeper position.
